Ticks - Homeopathy & Herbal Medicine
Before moving to Queensland a couple of years ago I was blissfully unaware of Ticks and the problems associated with their bites, for both humans and animals. We now live in an area with lots of bush and wildlife, including ticks, and have been bitten many times.
We always use Homeopathic and Herbal Remedies as our 1st Aid treatment whenever we are bitten.
At The Homeopathic Dispensary we have several Homeopathics and Herbal Tinctures that can be used for Tick Bites.
Please make sure that if symptoms persist you seek advice from your Health Care Professional.
1/ In the first instance you can use either Homeopathic Single Remedy Ledum 30C or the Homeopathic Combination Remedy Bites and Stings (which can be used for all animal and insect bites and stings). Take either remedy 3 x a day for one or two days, then stop and watch for any further reaction.
2/ After removing the tick, dab the bite with Organic Fresh Plant Echinacea Root Tincture. This can also be taken 3 x daily internally for 1 - 2 weeks. Alternatively you could use herbal tinctures to help the immune system (individually or in combination) - Organic Echinacea Root Tincture, Organic Thyme Tincture and Organic Wormwood Tincture . To help soothe any itchiness and inflammation that may appear, you could apply a mixture of Organic Calendula, Marshmallow & Thyme Tinctures. If there is still a part of the Tick left under the skin after removal, try Silica 30C - one dose daily for 3 days - to help the skin expel the remains.
3/ If the Tick Bite develops into a red circular bite (‘bulls-eye’) then you can use the Combination Remedy Tick Bites. Take it 3 x daily until you see some improvement then stop and wait and only redose if the symptoms return.
4/ If you start getting secondary symptoms associated with Lyme-like Illnesses such as fever/chills, aches/pains, headache, fatigue, muscle aches, joint pain or rashes then you could try the Combination Remedy – Lyme. Take it 3 x daily until you see some improvement, then stop and wait. Redose only if/when symptoms return. If symptoms persist follow-up with more specific Homeopathic Individualised Treatment or with your primary Health Care Provider.
5/ Ixodes halo 30C can be given as a Prophylaxis during Tick Season which may help to reduce an acute reaction to a tick bite.
ANIMALS
1/ Ixodes halo 30C is a Homeopathic Simplex Remedy that you can give to your animals as a Paralysis Tick Prophylaxis - it may help to reduce an acute reaction to a tick bite. You give them one dose every month or 2 during Tick Season. Please remember to check your animals daily for signs of Ticks.
2/ If the animal is bitten by a Paralysis Tick, The Homeopathic Dispensary has a Combination Remedy Paralysis Tick Bite for animals that may help to reduce or relieve symptoms – lethargy, panting, paralysis, laboured breathing, salivation, vomiting…etc. Please seek urgent Veterinary Advice
