Bluebottle Jellyfish Stings

This summer there have been an enormous amount of Jellyfish present at our beaches. Unfortunately, there have also been many people stung, mainly by the Bluebottle Jellyfish (Portuguese Man-of-War).

Bluebottle tentacles cause a sharp and painful sting which can last anywhere from a few minutes to many hours. The area of the body that has been stung develops a red line with small white lesions and in severe cases, blisters may appear.

Although these stings are usually not life-threatening, some people may exhibit signs of shock, respiratory distress or anaphylactic reaction (please seek urgent medical attention).

If stung, it is advisable to:

  • Leave the water immediately.

  • Remove any stingers which are still stuck to the skin by washing with seawater or picking them off by hand (or tweezers if you have them).

  • Immerse the sting in hot water or apply a cold pack if the hot water does not relieve the pain.

Homeopathic remedies that may help with the local skin reactions and pain:

  • Urtica urens 30C - red rash or blotches with burning, prickling and itching pain

  • Apis 30C - the skin is red, puffy and swollen - there is itching, throbbing, stinging and burning pain

  • Jellyfish Stings Combination Remedy We have formulated a new Combination Remedy which includes homeopathic remedies that are commonly used to reduce or relieve the symptoms associated with jellyfish stings – e.g. pain, stinging, swelling, rash

Pop some homeopathics in your bag and enjoy your trips to the beach......
