Ross River Fever

Our recent warm, wet weather has seen an increase in mosquito numbers with a resultant increase in reported cases of Ross River Fever. Recently at the Homeopathic Dispensary, we have had many people seeking help for symptoms of Ross River Fever.

Ross River Fever is a mosquito-borne virus. It is transmitted to humans via female mosquitoes from infected animals (such as wallabies and kangaroos). It is usually characterised by flu-like symptoms and polyarthritis.

Most people experience a mild infection however some people experience symptoms for a year or more. Some people (usually children) exhibit no symptoms at all.

Symptoms include:

  • Fatigue

  • Fever

  • Chills

  • Sore throat

  • Swollen lymph nodes

  • Headache

  • Aching muscles

  • Pain / swelling / stiffness of joints – most commonly wrists, knees, ankles, fingers, elbows, shoulders and jaw

  • Rash (approximately 50% of people develop a rash over the body)

Natural Therapies can offer help with the symptoms of Ross River Fever.

Please Note: The same remedies can be used for Barmah Forest Virus as the symptoms are very similar.
